Welder won't turn on: what to check
You flip the switch and nothing happens. No light, no fan. Check the simple things first. They are the cause more often than you would think.
What to check first
- Plug the machine into a different outlet that you know works.
- Check the breaker or fuse for that outlet.
- Skip the extension cord. A long or thin cord can starve the machine.
- Look at the power cord and plug for damage or burn marks.
- If your machine runs on 120 V and 240 V, make sure the plug and settings match the outlet.
- Check the power switch on the machine.
Safety: Do not open the case. Welders hold a dangerous charge inside even when they are unplugged.
What it usually is
- A failed power switch or input fuse
- A damaged power cord
- A failed part in the power section
- A control problem inside the machine
