Welder error codes and what they mean
The display shows an error code or a fault light. Codes are different for each brand and model. Your manual has the exact list. These are the groups most codes fall into.
What to check first
- Write down the code and your model number. A photo of the screen works too.
- Look the code up in your manual. It names the problem and often the first thing to try.
- Heat codes: let the machine cool with the fan running.
- Input power codes: check the outlet, the cord and the breaker. Skip extension cords.
- Feeder or motor codes: check the drive roll, liner and spool brake.
- After you fix the cause, turn the machine off and on once to clear the code.
Safety: Do not keep welding with a fault showing. You can damage the machine.
What it usually is
- Too hot or too much load
- Power coming in too low or too high
- A feeder or motor problem
- A failed part inside the machine
